FELICIA H. SIMMONS-STOVALL was born in Chicago, Illinois. The majority of her formative years were reared in the Robert Taylor Homes housing projects on Chicago’s south side. In 1978, her family moved to West Englewood in Chicago. Felicia attended Iowa Stated University, where she received her Bachelor’s in Business Administration. She earned her Master’s of Business Administration from DePaul University and Juris Doctorate from DePaul University College of Law. Attorney Simmons-Stovall was admitted to practice law in the State of Illinois.
An activist by nature, Felicia served on the Board of the Black Student Government at Iowa State. She was an outspoken critic of the oppressive South African Apartheid government, demanding the University divest its assets held in South Africa. She helped to create the Minority Student Coalition and a founding member of the graduate chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated, while at Iowa State University.
In February 2007, Felicia ran for Alderman of the 15th Ward in Chicago, with 13 others on the ballot and a write-in candidate. Although not successful, she forced a run-off in the election between herself and a heavily financed opponent. Both a leader and team player, Felicia also was a member of the Cook County Young Democrats; in fact, she assisted in helping to revive this now dynamic organization. She has also served as Vice President and Secretary to the 27th Ward Young Democrats.
Currently an Enforcement Attorney for the Illinois Securities Department, Felicia is married and has three wonderful children. She continues to serve on the board of the Lindblom Park Advisory Council. She is a member of the Greater Englewood Community and Family Task Force and the Apostolic Church of God, where she has served on its Career Development Ministry. |
