Katie M. Pennell works for the United States Senate as a Field Representative for U.S. Senator Barack Obama. Katie is originally from Cave-in-Rock, IL and graduated magna cum laude with dual Bachelor Degrees in Political Science and Journalism from Southern Illinois University Carbondale. Katie is a recipient of both the Senator Penny Severns Women's Public Service Scholarship and Internship and the Senator Vince DeMuzio Governmental Internship. She has worked for Illinois' 118th District Representative Brandon Phelps as well as for the Laborer's International Union of North America's Midwest Regional Office as a legislative aide to Mr. Sean Stott, LIUNA Director of Government Affairs. She was secretary of SIU-C College Democrats and volunteered on numerous campaigns such as those of Representative Brandon Phelps and Judge Bruce Stewart. She has assisted in Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, and Kentucky for the presidential campaign of Senator Barack Obama. Katie serves on the Southeastern Illinois College Alumni Association Board of Directors. Katie is a member of Phi Kappa Phi Honors Society, Gamma Betta Phi Honors Society, and Gold Key International Honors and Service Society. She is also a member of Illinois Democratic Women. Katie's other volunteer efforts include working as a GED and literacy tutor. |
