LaNeesha Barker
Description : LaNeesha Barker was born into a family steeped in Chicago politics. From a very young age she was exposed to the political process and what it means to truly be involved with decisions that ultimately affect your community on a local, state, and national level. LaNeesha graduated from Chicago State University with a B.A. in English; she has an intense passion for utilizing words in creative ways that effectively convey the intended message. In addition she has recently acquired a Master’s in Business Administration with a concentration in Project Management from Keller Graduate School. She has received awards for her creative writing and has utilized that skill to write for the last political campaign of former Cook County Board President John H. Stroger Jr. Her association with John H. Stroger Jr. has largely influenced her desire to be politically involved. Subsequent to working on most of his Cook County Board campaigns LaNeesha, an 8th ward native, went on to work for strong political leaders that have emerged from the 8th ward including the late Alderman Lorraine Dixon; former Alderman Todd Stroger; and the current Alderman Michelle Harris. In addition she has worked on the recent campaign of State Representative of the 33rd District Marlow H. Colvin. She currently serves as the 2nd Vice President of the 8th ward Young Democrats, has served on several organizing committees for the Cook County Young Democrats and is an active member of the Independent Voters of Illinois organization. LaNeesha intends serve as an elected official someday, but considers it her immediate responsibility to change the perception of politics in Chicago by arming voters with information and resources that will allow them to hold elected officials accountable and force them to serve the people that vote for them.
